Now that is over and I’ve had time to think about all the standout indie games I played over the weekend I can easily say nothing pulled me in more than the adorable and relaxing Jettomero: Hero of the Universe. From what I gathered while playing, Jettomero is an exploration game. You play as the title character, Jettomero, a giant robot who is as naive as he is clumsy. Trying his very best to save all the people in the universe, by flying planet to planet, solar system to solar system, fighting monsters and doing his best not to hurt anyone along the way.

Right off the bat I was drawn into both the art style and animation in this game, Jettomero’s uncoordinated gangly walk with his simple cartoony features makes it so easy to become attached and his mission to save everyone in the universe, though, I should say, I couldn’t stop myself from walking all over every tiny city I came across with Jettomerro exclaiming things like “ooh whoops” just making it feel all the more worthwhile. I really feel I need to stress how much I was sucked in by this game. I was playing this in a busy convention hall, yet Jettomero managed to completely hypnotize me and I genuinely forgot where I was, if this game can accomplish that at EGX I know it’s going to be impossible for me to be ripped from the game when playing in the comfort of my own home. Jettomero: Hero of the Universe is available now on Xbox One, Windows, Mac and Linux. From the small amount of the game I played at EGX I highly recommend you pick it up, I’m sure I’ve barely scratched the surface on what this game has to offer but I’m very excited to see more of it.

EGX Rezzed, the indie focused cousin of video game expo EGX, has gotten underway at Tobacco Dock in London. Running from Friday April 13 until Sunday April 15, the event is all about showcasing. Coming last in September was EGX. The event is very much geared towards consumers, but benefits from being the largest games event in the UK, with local studios using it as a platform for their own announcements.
